This tragedy in Duxbury, Massachusetts is truly one of the saddest modern cases I have ever followed in the news. Anyone reading the court updates can see how severe mental illness can completely destroy a human being.

In January 2023, former nurse Lindsay Clancy tragically killed her three children while her husband, Patrick, stepped out for some quick errands. Right after, she jumped out a second-story window to kill herself, which left her paralyzed.

Her defense team does not deny what happened. However, they argue she should not go to prison because she suffered from extreme postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder. They claim doctors overmedicated her with too many psychiatric drugs in a short time while she was begging for help with sleep and anxiety.

Meanwhile, prosecutors argue it was planned. They look at the timeline and notes from medical workers who saw her shortly before and did not spot immediate danger.

The most heartbreaking part is her husband, Patrick. He publicly forgave her, saying a sudden mental health nightmare took over the woman he loved.
